First introduced in 2015, the Livability Report is designed to act as an ongoing benchmark on livability and checking progress in key initiative areas. The report seeks to give Boise citizens better insight into how their city government balances differing priorities, what criteria is used to make key decisions and how defined goals help guide the city’s growth. It combines data and statistics with rich context to better tell the story of the city’s vision to make Boise the most livability city in the country.
“Not everything can be measured with a number, but everyone who lives in this city knows Boise has many attributes that contribute to it being such a great place to live, work, raise a family and own a business,” said Boise Mayor David Bieter. “With frank conversations happening in our community about how we grow, we hope this report helps bring context to that discussion and outlines the city’s vision for protecting those things that make Boise so special.”
The report outlines how the city strives to achieve livability through seven targeted goals:
- Safe and Secure Community
- Healthy Community
- Responsible Built Environment
- Connected Community
- Environmentally Sustainable Community
- Strong, Diverse Local Economy
- Creative and Informed Community
The report provides examples of programs and initiatives the City of Boise has recently launched or made progress toward in each goal area. When being evaluated for implementation or consideration for further development, efforts and projects that address more than one goal area are prioritized, showcasing the interconnected nature of Boise’s livability.
An addendum to the main report solely focused on environmental sustainability with additional metrics will be released in the coming weeks. The next livability report is scheduled to be released in 2020.
