City postpones hearing on panhandling ordinances

The City of Boise today announced it would postpone the scheduled June 4 public hearing and first readings of three proposed “Civil Sidewalks” ordinances so that staff could have additional time to research and answer questions posed by the City Council at its May 21 work session.

The three ordinances were proposed earlier this month to help curb harassing or unsafe panhandling in the city, sitting and lying on sidewalks and other issues that negatively affect the city’s public spaces. The proposals came in response to requests from local business owners and residents who have reported an increase in such activities in recent years.

A revised schedule for the public hearing and ordinance readings will be announced at a later date.
