Bieter calls for student applications to serve on city boards and commissions

Mayor Bieter today opened the application period for the annual Students on Boards and Commissions Service program.

Boise teens interested in serving on city boards and commissions during the 2013-14 school year must submit their applications by 5:00 p.m. Monday, May 6th.

Students on Boards and Commissions Service gives high-school students the opportunity to help make important decisions on city services for the community by serving on one of the city’s many boards and commissions. Student board appointments will run from September 2013 through May 2014. All positions are voluntary and unpaid, and are open to any high-school applicants residing within Boise city limits.

“Each year students from all over Boise have the opportunity to participate in managing the city’s many functions,” Mayor Bieter said. “These students offer an important perspective and get valuable experience to prepare them for their future careers. I encourage all students to take advantage of this rare opportunity and apply for service.”

Boards and commissions with student placement opportunities are Airport, Arts & History, Design Review, Development Impact Fee Advisory, , Historic Preservation, Housing Authority, Library, Mayor’s Council on Children and Youth, Parks & Recreation, and Planning and Zoning.
