This year, the city recognized the following projects for excellence in architecture, sustainability, safety and accessibility:
Excellence in Fire Life-Safety – Commercial
Jefferson Place (350 N. 9th Street) – The historic building was redeveloped with updates to building codes, materials and technology and extensive safety improvements, which include total replacement of the fire alarm pattern and devices throughout the building, as well as upgrades to the fire sprinkler system.
Excellence in Fire Life-Safety – Residential
Imperial Plaza (200 N. 3rd Street) –Imperial Plaza took a proactive approach to resolving the problem of a deteriorating concrete parking structure that was compromising the strength of the structural elements. The repairs were completed one year ahead of schedule.
Excellence in Sustainability – Commercial
EnergySeal Air Barriar Systems (1619 N. Phillippi Street) – EnergySeal is an adaptive reuse project that transformed a derelict auto repair shop into a modern, ultra-energy efficient building, now used as the regional headquarters for the McCall-based company.
Excellence in Sustainability – Residential
Montgomery Net-Zero House (220 E. Provident Drive) – Southwest Boise’s most energy efficient, healthiest custom home features solar panels to capture free energy from the sun, offsetting the energy required to operate the home, which gives it net-zero status.
Excellence in Landscape – Outdoor Space
The Grove Plaza (826 W. Main Street) – The Grove Plaza is a widely used public gathering space that was in much need of repairs and upgrades. The renovations citizens will be able to take advantage of include: new fountain, clay pavers throughout, lights, trees, tree grates, shade devices and site furniture.
Excellence in Design/Architecture
Inn at 500 (500 S. Capitol Blvd.) – The 89,000-sq. ft., six-story boutique hotel creates a landmark “gateway” into Downtown Boise. Common areas include a spacious lobby with local art, a street level restaurant and a second level patio with a 180-degree view.
Best Overall Project
City Center Plaza (777 W. Main Street) – This project is a testament to vision and cooperation. The mixed-use development includes a 55,000-sq. ft. subterranean public transit center for Valley Regional Transit; an 80,000-sq. ft. expansion of the Boise Centre; a 50,000-sq. ft. classroom and office facility for the computer science department of Boise State University; and a 120,000-sq. ft. office building for the corporate headquarters of Clearwater Analytics.
Mayor’s Choice Award
Athlos Academies (918 W. Idaho Street) – This project in Downtown Boise reimagined a well-known historical building – the former CC Anderson building. Repurposed as the headquarters for a charter school service provider that supports schools nationwide, the completely renovated building will house Athlos Academies corporate employees, and serve as a state-of-the-art training facility and educational hub for educators and coaches nationwide.
