The program includes such long-standing events as National Night Out, plus a series of new community activities including block parties and neighborhood workshops designed to bring neighbors together, give them new tools and honor individuals who have made significant local contributions.

“Last year’s program was so successful that we hope to keep the Good Neighbor program going for many years to come,” Mayor David Bieter said. “I encourage all Boise residents to take part in one or more of the events and to nominate someone they know for a good neighbor award. Recipients will be honored at a special reception on September 27 at the Boise Depot.” Good Neighbor nominations will be accepted until Tuesday, September 18.

Community Centers Host Good Neighbor Block Parties
Good Neighbor Block Parties hosted by three Boise Parks & Recreation Community Centers in August. Admission is free.  All block parties will run Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

• August 3 – Morley Nelson Community Center, 7701 W. Northview Street, 854-4917
• August 10 – Grace Jordan Community Center, 6411 W. Fairfield Avenue, 854-4910
• August 17 – Whitney Community Center, 1609 Owyhee Street, 854-6625

Children and adults are invited to participate in a water balloon toss, foosball, capture the flag, dodgeball and other field games coordinated by Mobile Recreation Van staff. KHITS will provide music and prizes. Boise Parks & Recreation will serve fruit and other healthy snacks. The community centers are operated in partnership with the Boise School District at local elementary schools.

National Night Out — Tuesday, August 7, 2012
America’s night out against crime. Plan a block party as a stand against crime and as a way to celebrate your neighborhood spirit while strengthening police-community partnerships. Boise Connects Neighborhood Workshops — Saturday, September 15, 9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m., Main Library, 715 S. Capitol
Join other Boise neighborhood leaders wanting to learn how to connect neighbors and neighborhoods. The workshop will provide tools, resources and ideas to help neighborhood leaders including emergency preparedness, neighborhood gardens and engaging all generations within a neighborhood. Library! Neighborhood Program
The Boise Public Library will host a series of fun neighborhood events at branches throughout the city.

• Friday, August 3rd, 6:00–7:30 p.m., Hillcrest Library, 5246 W. Overland Rd. Afterhours event, with snow cones, lemonade stand and tastes from host bench restaurant.
• Wednesday, August 22th, 6:00–8:00 p.m., Main Library, 715 S. Capitol Blvd. Good Neighbors Back-to-School party, with music, games, food and fun.
• Friday, August 24th, 3:30-5:00 p.m., Cole & Ustick Library, 7557 W. Ustick Rd. Block/fair party with outside games, jump rope, ice cream, carnival games.
• Saturday, September 22nd, Noon-3:00 p.m., Collister Library, 4724 W. State St. Neighbor sidewalk celebration, with food and drawings.

National Good Neighbor Day — Thursday, September 27, 2012, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Boise Depot, 2603 W Eastover Terrace
A celebration of good neighbors. Mayor David H. Bieter meets with Boise residents nominated for being exemplary neighbors and for going the extra mile for their communities. Beverages and light snacks served.

Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant program
Also included in the program is the City’s Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant program. For the 2013 program, the City is encouraging neighborhoods to identify legacy projects to commemorate Boise 150, the city’s sesquicentennial celebration. Application forms will be available September 1, with applications due November 1.
